Some Pics
Here are some pictures from our first few days in Yerevan.

A statue called “The Gladiator”. The gladiator was built by a famous spanish artist, at the moment I am totally blanking and forgetting his name, it starts with a B. This site is under construction, as is a lot of Yerevan. It is the future site of the Cafesjian Center For The Arts. Gerard and Cleo Cafesjian have donated funding the art center which will be the first of its kind in this part of the world.
We arrived in Yerevan at about 4 in the morning At 10am we went on a tour of the city and although tired from a long journey I’m glad we took the tour. During the tour I saw more of Yerevan than I had seen in the two weeks I spent here during the ACYO pilgramage in 2001. This is the statue of Sasountzi Tavit. It’s in a very run-down part of Yerevan, but it’s very inspiring.
Marching at Fort Erebuni….built around 750 B.C. The fort is mostly in ruins but walls still exist that are painted with colors that you would never imagine would have survied over 2250 years, as do stones with cuneiform writing.
These are toombstones at the Artsakh memorial in Yerevan.
Some of the group at the statue of Katch Vartan
Me and our tour guide, Anahid, overlooking Yerevan from the future site of the Cafesjian Center For The Arts. From this side of Yerevan you can see the whole city. You can see the old Soviet buildings meeting the newer, more modern ones.
Inside the Chapel at Artsakh Memorial.
Rita and Lisa at Cafe Jazzve
The Yerakooyn…we didn’t dress like this on purpose
The new St. Gregory Church in Yerevan. When I was here four years ago it was still under construction, and now it is finished. Inside it’s the biggest church I think I have ever been in. It’s about a ten minute walk from our hotel and we plan on coming here on our first Sunday in Armenia…. which is Vartavar!
