Karabagh Part II

So, 12 plus hours in a van with 9 people… just imagine all the stuff there is to blog about! It became the “phrase”… “Oh, thats going in the blog”! So, here are some of the fun and exciting things from our journey to Artsakh!

Climb all the corners of the Datev Monastary (check)
Flat tire because of the dirt road from Datev Monastary (check)
Fire on the side of a mountain very close to a village (check)
(Unfortunately as we stood there and waited for Arman, our driver, to repair the tire, we noticed that one of the houses was on fire as well. No fear, the fire engine was on its way, at about 30 miles per hour down the dirt road.)
Invited to have coffee in exchange for using the ‘zukaran’ in Goris (check)

Ok, there are many others, which the rest of the group is going to have to chim in on (if i can get them to blog!)

Saturday we spent the day touring Stepanagert and Shoushi (not sushi lusine!). We visited the museum of Shoushi as well as the memorial and cemetary of those who lost their lives in the Artsakh war. Saturday evening was a relaxing evening spent watching the sun set and enjoying the rest of the wine from the Areni winery (purchased the day before).

All in all, our journey to Artsakh was absolutly amazing. We all fell in love with Stepanagert. The air is clear, the music to our ears (the honking cars) was gone, and the people were very hospitable and friendly. The hotel we stayed at was very comfortable, we basically got a whole house to ourselves, 5 bedrooms, each with its own bathroom! It is called Heghnar, and I highly recommend it. If you are planning a trip to Artsakh, let me know, i have their contact info!
